About#Health@You is a patient-centered, mobile diabetes management solution. Users record diabetes-related information with text messages and what we call “text-based glanceable displays.” The system also helps facilitate better communication between teens and their parents or caregivers, since the tasks of managing diabetes can put an extra strain on their relationship as the teen goes through puberty. Finally, #Health@You includes an online personal health record (PHR), so there’s always an accessible log of past measurements to share with a doctor or nurse, at a regular appointment or in an emergency. |
Motivation
People with diabetes keep track of a lot of personal information, including things like their dietary and medication intake, how much they exercise, and their blood glucose levels. Research has shown that reflecting on these records can help people with diabetes learn how to manage their disease. We want to make it easier for people who don’t have easy access to the internet, especially teenagers who are just learning to manage their diabetes, to keep these logs.
Current Work
We’ve created the bare bones of #Health@You and are currently in the middle of a rigorous testing process. We’re running two studies: an online study that tests the training materials we’ve made and a focus group, where people will dig into the details of text-based glanceable displays and tell us how we can improve the system.
Getting Involved
If you’d like to participate in one of our studies, would like to collaborate with us on this project, or you have ideas for how we can reach more people who might interested, send us an email by clicking here.
