Day 1 (and Bradford Woods weekend)

Hi! I am Susan Monsey, and I am excited to be starting the ProHealth REU this week at Indiana University – Bloomington.  We have a great group of students coming from around the country to join in the research.  We spent last weekend at Bradford Woods and snapped a photo of all of the ladies (that were able to make it to Bradford Woods) at the lake overlook. 33151655_10104610423002254_2991341831427457024_n
We had fun navigating the low ropes course and blindfolded maze in the rain, and waited out a thunderstorm to ascend the 50 foot Alpine Tower in the afternoon. Certainly a memorable weekend!

As we are getting started with our blogs, we needed to verify that we are able to post videos in our blog posts. So, if you like babies, here is a video to brighten your day:

Day 1:

We spent the morning getting acclimated to campus.  After completing a pre-program survey, we met with the outside evaluators and were told that evaluations would also occur mid-way, at the end of the program, and continue into next year with an alumni assessment.  As current participants, we are responsible for speaking out to help improve the program if there are ideas that we can put forward.  After campus access cards were issued  and activated, we finally had a chance to have lunch with our potential faculty mentors.  We learned about the expectations for the next 10 weeks and were introduced to the research of Aehong Min: information sharing among family caregivers and respite care providers of older adults.  Her research will investigate ways in which technology may assist in the information sharing process, with a possible presentation at CHI 2019.
