I feel like my lightning talk was a mess. I had a lot to say in a little bit of time so I talked as fast as I could and I’m sure it was hard for people to understand me. I learned that you can never practice too much for your lightning talk. Meg and I practiced with each other for a bit, but getting up and actually giving the talk has a lot more pressure. In the future I will work on slowing down and noting the really key pieces of my work so that I do not have to rush through things. Working with the girl scouts was fun. Mina and I did not have people during the first session so I got to play around and get more familiar with soldering and all that jazz. I started to make a circuit with the angler fish, Marlin, and Dory from Finding Nemo. In the second session we had girl scouts to work with and it was cool to see their ideas of how to integrate the circuits into a drawing. Both of our girl scouts were very creative and it was fun to watch them work with the circuit materials. I may have been more excited than they were when their things lit up but that’s okay. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1WX-RFCRT-IVXNtWW5KUE94bVd6blQxa044ZzN0eDhoV0xJ

Meetings with Anna have been great. Meagan and I have been trying to get our poster ready and Anna has given us some really great constructive feedback on how it looks visually and content-wise. Meg and I went to lunch with Patrick on Monday and it was great to have a conversation with him outside of the work environment.

Peer reviews have been going well. Our reviewers give us a lot of useful feedback on how we can improve our paper. It can be tough to try and catch things on your own, especially after looking at it for so long, so having another person’s eyes is great.

Fun things from the past week:

On Sunday we went to Nashville, IN. It was so cool to see the glassblower and I bought a few ornaments. I also got some snazzy cat slippers for myself and my mom. We went to the fire tower at the state park on the way back and it was super cool. We did a quick hike and then skipped rocks by the lake after driving around trying to find it for a bit.  https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1WX-RFCRT-IWkhXVDRFSzJ5WDJYdExjaVVyQzVJTEc2X1N3

Friday was Gabi’s birthday so a bunch of us got together to make her day special. Kate and I went to Party City and got some decorations and a giant balloon. Anne and I baked cupcakes and Oreo balls to celebrate. Julia and I came in early this morning and made a streamer canopy over Gabi’s desk as well.

We are going to see Baby Driver tonight so that will be fun.
