07/03/2017 – 07/07/2017

On Monday, July 3, I headed into the office for a couple of hours to prototype and start on our assignments for the week, particularly the draft of the poster and our one minute lightning talk. I also watched the participatory design videos that Ben assigned to us.

On Tuesday, July 4, I took the day off and celebrated the Fourth of July with my best friend in Indianapolis!

On Wednesday, July 5, I worked on my 1-Minute Lightning Talk and the draft of our poster in PowerPoint. At 1:00 p.m., Anne and I met with Ben to get pointers on the layout of our poster and our talk on Friday. Ben also helped Anne with connection problems between her Mac and the LilyPad Arduino. At 2:00 p.m., we attended the Wednesday workshop on how to finance graduate school and how to navigate the application process. After the workshop, I peer reviewed another group’s paper and continued working on my lightning talk.

On Thursday, July 6, I finished my lightning talk and then met with Katie around 9:00 a.m. to discuss our prototyping and our wishlist of materials, which included PLA filament for the 3-D printers, more neodymium magnets, and storage cabinets. At 1:00 p.m., Anne and I met with Ben to continue grouping ideas from the participatory design workshops into themes. Afterwards, I finished drafting the findings and discussion of our paper and printed out plastic holders for the magnets on my most recent prototype of the example object.

On Friday, July 7, Anne and I met with Ben at 9:00 a.m. to discuss our work from this past week. We discussed poster presentations and our layout for the storyboard video. At 10:00 a.m., we had our Prohealth meeting, where we discussed our week’s work and what we would do with one million dollars. I would invest most of the money and purchase an apartment in New York City! After the meeting, I continued prototyping and worked on our video storyboard as well as our poster. At 2:00 p.m., we presented our lightning talks and celebrated Tom’s birthday with pizza and cupcakes! I spent the rest of the day printing out plastic containers for the magnets and gluing these onto the magnetic cardboard cutouts.

Initially, Anne and I had planned to discuss the participatory design workshops, our exemplar objects, and the toolkit for equal amounts of time during our talks. However, we decided to mainly focus on our exemplar objects to draw the audience in.
