The week started pretty well we all were excite for 4th of July celebration. Some of my friends had off on Monday and some of us had to go to lab, due to this reason there were very few people in the lab. Not only inside the building, there were few cars and few people on the street than other normal days. I worked on python scripts to add mean, median and mode on the collected data apart from cleaning the data. We finished one of the important task this wee that is, cleaning the data and collecting meta data. I am still in process of cleaning the collected data. We had a lot of fun on fourth of July. We played ping pong and had a short musical jam later at night.
This is the important task of our research. Now we have sufficient data to proceed ahead and perform the analysis. Among 3216 total reviews collected from 10 states in the United states of Urologists, we had to remove 1536 reviews. All those reviews were of physicians other then Urologists. Still I am in process of cleaning the remaining 1600 reviews so that the majority of collected data will be of Urologists.
Data visualization is an important aspect of data analysis. We need to visualize the results of our data after we finish collecting it, this includes presenting the conclusion of data in certain types diagram. I mapped the states with highest and lowest prostate cancer mortality rates with the mode star ratings and median star ratings. Also, I made a box and whiskers plot in tableau by state and by review length based on stars. For building box and whiskers plot for review based on stars and review length I was little confused because it showed weird data in the proces.
Collection of meta data also falls in the cleaning of data. Meta data includes median stars, mode stars and mean stars given to health care providers by their service users.
I have ben working hard to fix the weaknesses and errors of my research paper. Many of my reviewers have been suggesting me to fix different errors of my paper. Most suggestions I have been getting regarding my paper consist of ,
– Fixing grammatical errors
– Modifying the tables
– Adding more citations
I will keep working on these issues to improve the quality of the paper.
On Thursday, we had a meeting with Dr. Jennifer Mankoff from Carnegie Mellon University where we talked about progress so far and what we should do in the upcoming week. Quiet a lot of work has been assigned to us (me and Lindsay) regarding our research. Some of the works include :
-Box and Whiskers plot in tableau
-Work more on data cleaning
-Collect and read more papers related to reviews from CHI
-Make deadline for paper based on what is important and what is optional
-Working on poster
Which clearly means that I have a lot of task to complete this weekend.
The lightening talk went pretty good. I was kinda nervous at the beginning so, I wanted to go first. But as I watched my friends deliver their presentation I go a little strong to go in front and present. I had prepared myself to speak and how to deliver my presentation before I went in front of audience to speak but I think it didn’t go as expected. I missed some words while in the process and I took little more then the required time. Still, I am happy with it.
