Week Six.

Change in plans

We finished our data collection process last week and had a plan to start with coding this week. We downloaded tams and started to read the documentation but on Tuesday Lindsay came up with a new approach to collect data. Earlier we had collected the data using place names. Which means we put the name of the place of which we want the data and it creates the place id of the possible locations around the place. Then we use place details api which collects the details of the place ids that was collected. Using this methods we were able to collect few reviews but the percentage of unwanted reviews was less then 5%.

But in this new approach, (which is Lindsay’s idea) the code iterates through a circle of 10000m radius and collects the lace ids of available places. Using this new approach we were able to collect far more reviews then earlier method but, the percentage of unwanted reviews is assumed to be around 25%. The code sends more requests, more than 1000 requests per search so, we had to verify our identity. By verifying our identity we could send 150,000 requests per day so, it was necessary.

We also changed the number of states for research this week. We decided to do our research on 10 states instead of 20 states that we had decided earlier. The main reason behind this is the amount of time we have. Total of ten states will be sufficient to get the results and perform our research effectively .

We were supposed to start coding this week but due to some changes in our pans we decided to finish data collection process at first. So, we again revised our code book and added some codes in regular context codes. We had some problems in differentiating universal context code s and regular context codes.

I had a meeting with Dr. Siek where we she helped me in paper writing process. We had a discussion about what has been completed and what is yet to be accomplished. She suggested me to start practicing on tableau and Tams.

On Friday, we had a meeting with Dr. Jen and Lindsay from CMU. We discussed our progress and about our plans for the coming week.  There are various things that are to be accomplished which includes,

data cleaning :  We need to keep the reviews of urologists and remove the reviews of other specialities. We will manually do this.

data analysis : We are qualitative and quantitative analysis of the data we have collected.

data visualization : We are visualizing the summary of our data using Tablaeu.

As a whole, this week was an opportunity to learn a lot and it was fun.
