First week, day 3.

Our day started with the reviews of our assignments by Dr. Siek.  She reviewed our shareLatex papers and gave us some  important suggestions regarding the designs and patterns. It was like an update on what we had learned the other day.

Then, Ann and Dr. Lawson gave us a presentation about qualitative analysis which is basically about analyzing the data. We had a very good discussion on this topic. Dr. Lawson gave us first hand information and shared his experience with us.  We were taught about making videos and writing a press release as well.

We had a short lunch break and we spent the whole two hours playing with arduinos.

Summary:

Article: Palatal Rugae Pattern for Gender Identification among Selected Student Population in Chennai, India Seenivasan Madhankumar1*, Shanmuganathan Natarajan1 , Uma Maheswari1 , V. Anand Kumar1 , Padmanabhan T. Veeravalli1 and Fathima Banu1

The main point of the paper is to use forensic odontology to find the most predominant pattern of palatal rogue in males and females. 135 students were used to make maxillary impressions in dental stone and the data was analyzed using IBM SPSS 19.0. In very few cases little difference was noted in Pearson chi square value which means the number of unification type of rugae was higher among females then males. This research is important because it can play a vital role in the sector of forensic science in figuring out the gender of a dead body using their teeth pattern. In my opinion the research is important but more analysis is needed to figure out the difference since the difference between male teeth and female teeth is hard to notice.
