Day 13 (Week’s Progression) — Week 4

6/15/16

Savannah’s (Daily) Reflection

Well, well, well, it has been an interesting week. I have made wonderful progress on extracting text from my social blogs. Although, I am at another hurtle trying to write a script that extracts from multiple blogs rather than me having to put each individual blog url into my code. Im on schedule, my script is still in progress. I have been working on this issue and reading my article for my reading group meeting on Thursday. Along with these task Professor Sriraam informed me of another challenge I can take on if I was up to it. The challenge is called the PPMI Data Challenge 2016. It’s a wonderful opportunity and gives me a chance to work on two projects.

Also, this week I finally met my graduate mentor Devendra. He is a newly wed! Now that he is back he’ll be overseeing my ADE and PPMI research projects along with Sriraam. We have another meeting today and Friday discussing each project. When we met yesterday we briefly spoke about the PPMI data challenge and I brought him up to speed on what I have been working on so far (not going into too much detail). He will get more details about what I have been working on today.

Today I will work on my code, peer reviewing, and a bit of my own paper. That will probably be it because I have two long meetings today. Oh, I almost forgot, I have been teaching myself how to type (more efficiently). I began with this site, http://www.how-to-type.com/touch-typing-lessons/how-to-type-home-keys/, I will move on to another one once I master this one!

Thursday

Today I had another reading group meeting which definitely clarified a paper I had a little trouble reading. Also, I have made progress writing my the code to scrape multiple sites at once. For my final deliverables I plan to have a confidently completed list of adverse drug-drug events that can be used for further research and to better inform people.
