This week Erin, Professor Siek, and I conducted a scaled down version of a co-design study we will eventually be doing with a group of about 10 people. On Tuesday, 3 people kindly participated in a pre-study. I was originally a little nervous to be standing in front of a group of people and my adviser conducting a workshop, but Erin and I built a good rapport with the participants and I relaxed soon after beginning!
A small portion of the things that I noticed:
- one person leads, one person takes notes – I wasn’t able to sit down and aggregate my thoughts until later that day and I think that I forgot a lot of things that were worth writing down and thinking about
- need to be more clear with instructions – perhaps create visual cues
- “you guys” – Professor Siek alerted me on this. I didn’t realize how unprofessional I sounded until she mentioned that. No more referring to a group of people as “you guys”!
Other updates: We’ve got a script that works for sending texts with Twilio. Katie coordinated with the IT people at SOIC to get a server up and running so we can start replying to text messages from Twilio.
To do for this week: finish writing IRB proposal, get server up and running, work on replying to text messages
